Located in Boskoop in the Netherlands, the Boskoop Table, a community meeting table, explores seasonal and social change over 3 time scales. The building is rooted in its place through materials, people and its sense of time. Using the incredibly dense context and field patterns, a series of spaces, views and routes draw people along the long narrow polder. The project develops from a family house into a summer hostel and winter cooking school and skill share, spaces adapt, reacting to the new people and environmental conditions. The central spine, greenhouse ‘extra spaces’, layering of screens and contrasting small-scale private spaces explore the rich pattern of everyday life.
